New Release Of The Week: Liam Finn “Fomo”

This week, son-of-head Crowdie Liam Finn releases a new one, the strangely-titled “Fomo.”  Liam sounds amazingly like his father Neil, who is lead singer of Crowded House.

Pick it up at Amazon.com.

New Release Of The Week: Eddie Vedder “Ukelele Songs”

Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam, the King of grunge vocals, releases an album of songs done entirely on ukelele?  How can that NOT be the album of the week?

New Release Of The Week - Joseph Arthur "Graduation Ceremony"

This week’s best new release is from Joseph Arthur.  His new one is entitled Graduation Ceremony.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been impressed with what Joseph Arthur does.

New Release Of The Week: Azam Ali “”From Night To The Edge Of Day”

There are more popular releases out this week, but my choice this week is the new album by Azam Ali.

’Who’s that?,’ you ask.  She’s an Iranian singer who combines traditional Persian and Indian styles with her own modern twist.  She is frontwoman of the bands Vas and Niyaz.  You have probably heard her voice at some point in time, as she is quite popular for guest spots and soundtracks.

Here’s a track from her new album From Night To The Edge Of Day:

Buy it at Amazon.

Other new albums out this week from Foo Fighters, Colin Hay, Jimi Hendrix, k.d. lang, Alison Krauss + Union Station, and Paul Simon.

New Release Of The Week: Ray Charles “Live In Concert”

This week’s notable release is Ray Charles Live In Concert.  19 tracks in all, including some of his best-known stuff (“What’d I Say,” etc.)  It’s Ray Charles, you can’t go wrong!

There’s not much else of note coming out this week.  A lot of greatest hits and reissues.  There are, however, some new albums by Robbie Robertson and the Ravonettes.  Those could be worth looking into.

New Release Of The Week: Dropkick Murphys “Going Out In Style”

One of the things I want to do on this blog is highlight what I think is the New Release Of The Week.  It’s hard keeping up with what new music is being released, so I’ll try and clue you into the best of what’s new.  It won’t always be something by a band I’ve heard, but it will be something I’ve heard of and noted.

This week, it’s Going Out In Style by those crazy Boston Irish rockers the Dropkick Murphys.  I just think it’s the most fun album being released this week.   There are some reissues this week too, including Derek And The Dominoes, but I wanted to highlight something truly new.

Buy the album at Amazon.

Also out this week:

  • Marcia Ball Roadside Attractions
  • Derek and the Dominoes Layla & Other Assorted Songs
  • Great White Absolute Hits
  • Colin Hay Gathering Mercury
  • Los Lonely Boys Rockpango
  • Peter Bjorn & John Gimme Some
  • Radiohead King Of Limbs
  • Pete Yorn Musicforthemorningafter 10th Anniversary Edition
And an album by some girl named Britney.
